I was browsing youtube and found this performance of rock-me-baby with B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, and Jimmy Vaughn. After watching it all I have to say is WoW!

A little history

The Blues was generated in the deep south of the United States within the African-American Community at the end of the 19th century. Original blues songs developed from spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts, chants and rhymed simple narrative ballads. The blues rhythm, which is found in Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, and Rock and Roll, is characterized by specific chord progressions. The twelve bar blues is the most popular and frequented blues chord progression. Blues encompasses many different genres within itself, some more popular ones were the delta, piedmont, jump and chicago blues.
WWII marked the transition of acoustic blues into electric blues. This increased the blues’ popularity and introduced the new blues rock genre in the 60′s and 70′s. There are amazing artists who range from the ages of 18 to 80 that are playing all the different types of blues. When blues became popular the artist leading the pack included John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, B.B. King, their heirs like Buddy Guy, Otis Rush and Eric Clapton were making innovative and revolutionary blues compositions. The later generations of blues artists such as Robert Cray and the late Stevie Ray Vaughn were mixing their extreme technicality with blues traditions to create distinct sounds. This new blues sound was attracting an all new blues following.

John Mayer

When someone thinks of John Mayer the girls may think heart-throb and the guys may think just another pop singer. John Mayer started out playing acoustic rock but decided it was time to close up shop on acoustic sensitivity in 2005. Mayer began collaborating with artists like Buddy Guy, B.B. King and Eric Clapton. The influence of blues led him to form the John Mayer Trio. The trio consisted of Mayer, bassists Pino Palladino, and drummer Steve Jordan. The band opened for Rolling Stones on their tour and released a live album called, Try!. Mayer’s album continuum was released in 2006 which was a mix of Mayer’s signature pop sound with the feel, sound, groove, and sensibilities of the blues. The album contained two of John Mayer Trio’s tracks, Vultures and Gravity. On many of the tracks on continuum and in most of Mayer’s live performances you can hear blues influence from his idol’s, which include Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Cray, and Freddie King. Mayer wears a tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughn with his Stevie’s initials on his left arm. Here’s a video of a John Mayer Trio performance.

This relatively unknown plays in the greater Cincinnati area. He has been playing since he was 2 and is super talented. He has played for names like Ted Nugent, Little Texas, Buddy Guy, Joe Bonamassa, Chris Duarte, Anthony Gomes, Foghat, Lonnie Brooks, Ronnie and Wayne Baker Brooks, Bob Margolin, Eddie “the Chief” Clearwater, and many more. You’ve got to listen to his stuff. On his myspace he describes his sound as a mix between Blues and Southern Rock, but not stopping there. Some of his music is on his myspace. There is a link to his website in the links section.

I was browsing youtube and found this awesome video of an interview with Stevie Ray Vaughn. He gives a little insight on his playing style, and tells a little about his life. Shows how talented and unique he truly was.
